A new review titled “Bacterial osmoprotectants—a way to survive in saline conditions and potential crop allies” has been published in FEMS Microbiology Reviews as a result of collaboration between the University of Warsaw, the Institute of Soil Science and Plant Cultivation (Puławy), and the University of Turin. The paper was authored by Aleksandra Goszcz, Karolina Furtak, Robert Stasiuk, Joanna Wójtowicz, Marcin Musiałowski, Prof. Michela Schiavon and Dr Klaudia Dębiec-Andrzejewska.
The review highlights the mechanisms of bacterial adaptation to salinity through osmoprotectant synthesis and uptake, with a focus on their application in soil restoration and improving plant stress tolerance. The study was carried out within the SONATA 18 NCN project led by Dr Klaudia Dębiec-Andrzejewska.
